Drink Green Tea to Battle Your Bulge

It’s been reported that the ingredients in green tea aid in weight loss. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported on a study that focused on the benefits of green tea. The study found that green tea fights heart disease, cancer, other diseases, and fat. So the next time you reach for a diet soda, opt for a green tea instead.

If you can’t get any green tea, then a green tea extract will do the job as well. This green tea study was split between two groups. One group drank a daily bottle of your ordinary variety tea. The other group drank a daily bottle of regular tea fortified with green tea extract. They did this over a period of three months. Researchers discovered that the participants who drank green tea lost more weight than those who drank the plain tea.

Traditional teas, such as black tea and oolong tea, come from the same plant as green tea. But green tea leaves aren’t fermented before they’re steamed and dried. It’s not known how much of an effect this has on the special properties of green tea.

Teas also have polyphenols, which are substances known to fight free radicals, cancer, and certain viruses. Research shows that green tea is special because it has an abundance of catechins. Catechins are polyphenols with strong anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. It’s also possible that catechins can reduce cholesterol and body fat. Matcha green tea is supposed to have the most polyphenols as it uses the whole leaf ground up. If you buy matcha in bulk as a powder it's much cheaper than in individual servings. Using a shaker cup is the easiest since you can enter the powder into the water and shake it up. Matcha is also higher in L-theanine which as an amino acid with a calming effect which can help to take the edge off from the caffeine.

Thirty-five Japanese men participated in the green tea study. Researchers studied the effects of catechins on their weight loss. All of the participants weighed about the same. The men were divided into two groups of tea drinkers. One group drank tea with a normal amount of catechins – 22 milligrams. The other group drank tea with additional green tea extract. The extract added an additional 690 milligrams of catechins.

While participating in the study, all of the men followed an identical diet. They all ate the same foods for breakfast, and closely monitored their caloric and fat intake. The study was conducted over a three month period. In the end, the men who drank the tea with green tea extract lost more weight than the other group. They also had lower cholesterol levels.

This research hasn’t been done on very many people, so it may or may not work for you. The internet is full of people who say it works for them. And the belief that green tea helps with weight loss is already widespread. Why not give it a try? Drinking green tea is much better for you than drinking a diet soda.

It’s probably best to buy and brew your own green tea. According to the study, the catechin amount depends on how much tea is used and how long it is steeped. Researchers recommend drinking at least 4 cups of green tea per day. You can also drink other types of tea and add green tea extract. You can see for yourself if green tea really is a miracle drink.
